Glen Thomas Jacobs (born April 26, 1967 in
Madrid, Spain, but raised near Nashville, Tennessee, USA, currently
residing in Knoxville, Tennessee) is an American professional wrestler for
World Wrestling Entertainment on the RAW brand, best known for
wrestling as Kane. He is currently one half of the World
Tag Team Champions along with The Big Show.
Early
career
Jacobs has portrayed several characters throughout his
career since his professional wrestling debut in 1992. He was originally
known as Unibomb while wrestling in the United States
Wrestling Association, Smoky Mountain Wrestling, where he was co-holder of
the SMW Tag Team Championships with Al Snow, and a few early appearances
with the WWF. He also competed in the Japanese shoot style promotion Pro
Wrestling Fujiwara Gumi. Jacobs is believed to have debuted in the WWF as
the masked Black Knight at the 1993 Survivor Series,
though some fans believe that the Black Knight was actually Jeff Gaylord.
He later appeared as the evil dentist of Jerry Lawler, Isaac
Yankem, DDS, in 1995 and 1996 after Bret Hart damaged Lawler's
teeth by forcing his foot into his mouth, and as Diesel
in 1996 and 1997, replacing the original wrestler to have played the
Diesel character, Kevin Nash.
Kane
In October 1997,
Jacobs was repackaged as Kane, the on-screen half-brother of The
Undertaker, with whom he feuded off and on for several years. The
characters' histories are that as children, Undertaker "accidentally"
burned down the funeral home in Death Valley where they lived, killing
their parents, and hideously scarring Kane physically and mentally. Kane
is portrayed to be psychologically unstable, supposedly being depressed,
schizophrenic, extremely violent and quick to anger. Kane, like his
half-brother, is supposedly able to summon fire and bolts of lightning.
Undertaker's manager, Paul Bearer (who was billed as Kane's father), hid
Kane as he grew up and Kane was thought to be dead until he returned as a
7-foot, 326-pounds, one-eyed monster heel at In Your House: Badd Blood in
October 1997 and attacked Undertaker during his Hell in a Cell match with
Shawn Michaels. His first actual match as Kane was against Ahmed Johnson
on the November 3, 1997 episode of Monday Night RAW. He would
later have many other heel and face turns through out the
years.
The Undertaker initially refused to fight Kane, saying he
would not fight his own flesh and blood for show. However, after Kane
interfered in Undertaker's WWF World Heavyweight Championship match at the
1998 Royal Rumble which climaxed in Kane locking Undertaker in a casket and
setting it ablaze, Undertaker returned to just defeat Kane at WrestleMania
XIV in March 1998 with three tombstone piledrivers. After the match, Kane
tombstoned Undertaker into a steel chair.
He won the WWF
Championship at the June 1998 King of the Ring pay-per-view from Stone
Cold Steve Austin in a First Blood Match, which is the highlight of his
career so far. However, the title reign was short lived, as Austin
recaptured the title the next night on RAW. Kane went on to win the WWF
Tag Team Championship with Mick Foley in July 1998 and with X-Pac in 1999.
Kane would later join The Corporation. Later Kane would turn face by
getting betrayed by then heel and then Corporation member, Chyna and
getting kicked out of the Corporation. His first alliance with the heel
gimmick of the Undertaker turned him heel again. After having problems
with Undertaker, he ended up becoming close friends with X-Pac and turning
face against Undertaker. During the D-Generation X reunion X-Pac betrayed
Kane. Kane had a feud with X-Pac over his girlfriend Tori, who X-Pac stole
from Kane. Kane has also feuded with several of the top superstars
including Triple H, The Big Show, Kurt Angle and even WWF owner Vince
McMahon. In the process, Kane became one of the premier stars in the WWF.
His costume changed over the course of his career, gradually uncovering
his body, and even his face. Kane also evolved from speaking with a voice
box to speaking without a voice box as X-Pac's tag team
partner.
Kane later turned heel for the third time by betraying the
babyface gimmick of the Undertaker, giving him two Chokeslams in the
Undertaker's match against Chris Benoit. Kane refused to explain his
assault. At SummerSlam 2000, Undertaker took off Kane's mask but Kane
managed to hide his face. At Unforgiven 2000, Kane cost Undertaker the WWF
Championship. In 2001 Kane turned face again by reuniting with Undertaker
as the "Brothers of Destruction" and contended for the WWF Tag-Team
Championship. The two turned out to be a successful duo, defeating Rikishi
and Haku in a brutal First Blood Match. They would then get a shot at the
Tag titles at No Way Out 2001, facing then champions the Dudley Boyz and
Edge and Christian in a Tables Match. The Brothers of Destruction
dominated the entire match and nearly had the match won until Rikishi and
Haku interfered. At one point in early 2002, Kane saved The Rock and Hulk
Hogan from nWo members (Scott Hall, X-Pac, and Kevin Nash) but The Rock
and Hulk Hogan were disqualified. Kane, The Rock, and Hulk Hogan would go
on to defeat the nWo next week on a edition of SmackDown!
Katie
Vick
During 2002, Kane entered a feud with HHH and the two had a
match at No Mercy 2002 in which the Intercontinental Championship and the
World Heavyweight Championship were at stake. Triple H claimed that
several years earlier, Kane had an unrequited relationship with someone
named Katie Vick. After Vick was killed in a car crash, Kane – who
was the driver – allegedly raped her corpse. Triple H later made
good on a threat to show video footage of Kane completing his "crimes";
however, the footage clearly showed Triple H (dressed as Kane) simulating
necrophilia with a mannequin. Fans were not shy about expressing their
disgust with the storyline (which is considered by many as one of the
worst WWE storylines ever), forcing WWE writers to bring the story to a
quick end. Also, as far as Kane's fans are concerned, this back-story
never happened, as it clearly contradicts his previously established
history.
Unmasked
In 2003, Triple H gave Kane a chance
to join Triple H's faction, Evolution, so they could be the best faction
in the history of WWE. But RAW co-general manager Stone Cold Steve Austin
gave Kane an opportunity for Triple H's World Heavyweight Championship
live on RAW at Madison Square Garden if he rejected Triple H's offer. But
RAW co-general manager Eric Bischoff interupted Stone Cold. He told Kane
if he took Stone Cold's offer and he lost, he would have to unmask in the
middle of the ring. Kane then took the offer from Stone Cold and the next
week Kane and Triple H fought. Kane fought for his life in the match (or
at least his mask) but with the help of Ric Flair, and Randy Orton Triple
H defeated Kane. Kane unmasked and turned heel by turning on friend Rob
Van Dam with a Chokeslam, starting a feud. This marked his first heel turn
since turning on the Undertaker for the second time. Kane did not bear any
scars or burns the next week on Raw. It was later revealed that he was
never burnt and the scars were all in his mind.
RVD stated that he
didn't need the mask; Kane replied by saying he hates RVD. At SummerSlam,
Kane defeated RVD using the Tombstone.
After
unmasking, Kane was still emotionally unstable and started on a path of
destruction. Due to Kane's actions against Shane McMahon's mother, Linda
McMahon, (Kane, on RAW one night, grabbed Linda, and performed the
Tombstone Piledriver on her, driving her head down onto
the top of the steel ramp,) Shane sought vengeance against Kane. At a Last
Man Standing Match at Unforgiven 2003, Kane won after Shane McMahon climbed
the event set and missed an Elbow Drop on Kane nearly 40 feet below. During
the build up for the match at Survivor Series, Kane attempted to throw
Shane into a burning dumpster, only to be thrown in himself. This lead to
speculation that Kane was going to leave WWE or don his mask again.
However, Kane returned unharmed and determined to destroy Shane McMahon.
Kane won their Ambulance Match at Survivor Series that year.
Kane
returned later in the night during the "Buried Alive" match between Vince
McMahon and The Undertaker. Kane helped Mr. McMahon out of the grave, then
used an explosion from the digger and punched Undertaker into the grave and
buried him alive. During the 2004 Royal Rumble match, Kane was surprised by
a video stating the Undertaker's return, and was thrown out of the ring by
Booker T, whom he was feuding with at the time. After weeks of being
taunted with various scare tactics by the Undertaker, Kane lost to his
brother at WrestleMania XX.
Lita
Soon after WrestleMania
XX, Kane fell in love with Lita, but Lita was disturbed by Kane's
affections. At the beginning of May, Kane kidnapped Lita and supposedly
asked her a question before Kane let her go. On the May 17, 2004 episode
of RAW, Lita answered yes to Kane's mysterious question. On that
same night, Kane won a 20-man Battle Royal to earn Number One
Contendership to Chris Benoit's World Heavyweight Championship at the Bad
Blood event.
On the June 14, 2004 RAW, Kane mercilessly beat Shawn
Michaels, ending his assault by placing Michaels' neck in a folding steel
chair and jumping on the chair. Michaels was carried off-stage in a
stretcher, portrayed with a worked crushed larynx because of Kane's
attack.
Later, Lita announced she was pregnant (also a work) and
her then real-life and storyline boyfriend Matt Hardy assumed that he was
the child's father. On the June 21, 2004 broadcast of RAW, Kane
interrupted Hardy's marriage proposal to Lita, and claimed to be the
father of Lita's child.
On the June 28, 2004 edition of RAW, in an
interview with J.R., Kane explained his attack on Shawn Michaels, saying
it was out of anger for not winning the World Heavyweight Title and that
Michaels was in his way. He also stated that he impregnated Lita in order
to have a child to continue his legacy. Kane became angry after J.R.
implied that Matt Hardy could be the father of Lita's child. Matt Hardy
attacked Kane, but was subdued by security sent by Eric Bischoff. In
order to appease Kane, and punish Chris Benoit, Bischoff gave Kane a
rematch for the World Heavyweight Title, in which Benoit could only win
via submission (Something he has never been able to do against Kane) while
Kane could win the title via pin fall, submission, disqualification or
count out. Kane dominated the match, but Benoit was able to get the
crossface on and Kane tapped out. Kane would attack Benoit after the
match, and Lita would come out. She presented the championship belt to
Kane, and appeared to help Kane assault Benoit, but instead she gave him a
low blow. Kane grabbed Lita to chokeslam her, but let her go after
realizing that she was trying to purposely miscarry her child. He argued
with Lita, which gave Benoit the opening to blindside Kane with the
championship belt.
Kane and Hardy were booked to face one another
at the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view event in a "Till Death Do Us Part"
match, where Lita would have to marry the winner. Kane was victorious in
the match and married Lita on the August 23, 2004 edition of
RAW.
On the September 13, 2004 episode of RAW,
Kane faced a debuting Gene Snitsky. During the match, Snitsky hit Kane in
the back with a steel chair, causing Kane to fall on top of Lita. The
injuries Lita suffered in the match led to a miscarriage, which
immediately caused Kane to turn face and seek revenge against Snitsky for
the death of his son, even though it wasn't Snitsky's fault. This
marked Kane's first face turn since reuniting with the Undertaker. Kane
lost to Snitsky in a steel chain match at Taboo Tuesday 2004. Snitsky then
continued to injure Kane's neck with a steel chair, crushing his larynx in
exactly the same manner Kane had "injured" Shawn Michaels several months
earlier. This injury was also worked, as Jacobs was scheduled to film a
WWE-produced movie, See No Evil.
Gene Snitsky off a ledge
on RAW. Kane eventually returned and defeated Snitsky at New Year's
Revolution. Later, on the January 17, 2005 RAW, he and Snitsky
were booked to compete in a No Holds Barred match. The match, show, and
feud ended with Kane chokeslamming Snitsky off the stage, with both
wrestlers falling through tables and other equipment below. This moment is
also memorable for a camera angle which revealed both Kane and Snitsky
through the equipment, clearly laughing. The footage is featured in some
WWE "botched moments" videos, though mostly for breaking kayfabe.
A
clip of that moment can be found here.
At WrestleMania 21 Kane
participated in the "Money in the Bank" ladder match along with Chris
Jericho, Chris Benoit, Shelton Benjamin, Christian, and Edge. He was there
as a replacement for Matt Hardy because WWE feared that if Hardy had been
there with Edge, it might have turned into a real fight (by that time,
Edge and Lita had been involved in a real-life affair). After WrestleMania
Kane and Lita were revealed to be happily married and conspiring to
frighten Lita's rival Trish, who had been antagonizing Lita about her
relationship with Kane. On the April 18, 2005 RAW, a feud between
Kane and Trish's new protector Viscera began with Viscera running in and
physically manhandling Kane. Kane went on to defeat Viscera at Backlash
2005. He went in matches with him.
Later, Lita turned on Kane for
Edge, eventually leading to a heated feud between the
two.
Return to RAW
and Big Show after winning the World
Tag-Team Titles at Taboo Tuesday 2005 Kane made his return on October
17th participating in an 18-man battle royale for possible number one
contendership to the WWE Championship at Taboo Tuesday. He won, last
eliminating Chris Masters by tossing him over the ropes. The following
week on RAW, Kane was rumored to have suffered a back injury in a
triple threat match against the other two contenders (HBK & Big Show),
caused by a botched suplex by Big Show. The next RAW, Kane and Big Show
had a Tornado Tag match against the Heart Throbs, hinting that they would
be participating in a Tag-Team Championship match at Taboo Tuesday. They
disposed of them easily, each trying to outdo each other, then ending by
chokeslamming a Heart Throb each. The next week at Taboo Tuesday Kane and
the Big Show won the World Tag Team Championship. This is the first time
Kane has won a championship without the mask since his Tag Team title with
RVD with the mask.
Kane would take part in the main event at the
2005 Survivor Series, as a part of Team RAW alongside The Big
Show, Shawn Michaels, Carlito and Chris Masters to take on Team
SmackDown! - Batista, Rey Mysterio, John Bradshaw Layfield, Lashley
and Randy Orton. In the buildup to the Survivor Series, Kane and Big Show
picked on Batista several times - on the November 11 edition of Friday
Night SmackDown!, Edge invited Kane and Big Show into the ring, where they
double chokeslammed Batista. On the November 21 edition of RAW, they
chokeslammed Batista again, this time through a car windshield. And on the
November 25 edition of Friday Night SmackDown!, they chokeslammed Batista
through the SmackDown! announce table.
At the Survivor Series,
Batista would eliminate Kane from the match, but Kane hung around, helping
the Big Show to chokeslam Batista once again, leading to Big Show
eliminating Batista. However, Team SmackDown! would eventually defeat Team
RAW.
After teaming with Big Show to successfully defend their World
Tag Team Titles against Snitsky and Tyson Tomko on RAW, Kane once again
invaded SmackDown! during a live special on November 29, interfering in
Rey Mysterio's interpromotional match with The Big Show. They gave
Mysterio a double chokeslam, only for The Undertaker to see Kane off. On
the December 2 edition of Friday Night SmackDown!, Kane and Big Show
defeated Mysterio and JBL, and were about to attack Mysterio again when
Batista ran in and saw Kane and Big Show off.
On December 18th,
2005 at the SmackDown! pay-per-view, Armageddon, the RAW team of Kane and
the Big Show successfully defeated the SmackDown! team of Batista and Rey
Mysterio cleanly. The match was especially significant since Mysterio and
Batista were the Smackdown Tag Team Champions at the time. And in
addition to that, Kane also earned himself a spot in the Elimination
Chamber match for the WWE Championship at New Year's Revolution 2006 on
January 8th by defeating Triple H in a qualifying match on the final RAW
with a double chokeslam courtesy of the Big Show, before Armageddon. On
December 27th, 2005 Kane "beat the clock" with a time of 0:28 by double
chokeslamming The Heart Throbs and entered the Elimination Chamber last,
though it didn't help him win the match. On the January 9th edition of
RAW, Kane won a qualifying match to enter the 2006 Royal Rumble.
Following his match he said that 29 other victims waited for him at the
Royal Rumble.
On the January 16th edition of RAW, Carlito came to
the ring and began taunting the other Royal Rumble participants by
claiming no one could throw him from the ring. Kane suddenly arrived,
walked down to the ring, and threw Carlito out (But not before shoving an
apple in Carlito?s mouth, to the glee of the fans attending the
match.).
On January 23, Kane fought Carlito in a singles match.
While it was a fairly even match, towards the end Kane became the dominate
of the two, until Carlito knocked him down. With Kane on the ground,
Carlito got a chair from ringside and attempted to use it on Kane. The
first attempt went wrong, and kane booted him to the face, but Carlito
bounced off the ropes and landed a hit on Kane, thus DQ?ing him. Before
Carlito had a chance to gloat, though, Kane reared back up, angrier than
before. Carlito ran from ringside, as Kane stared at him from the middle
of the ring.
Kane recently fought in the Royal Rumble match and
along with his tag team champion partner the Big Show managed to eliminate
uprising superstar Lashley. Shortly after, the partners turned on each
other and tried to eliminate one another, however they were both
eliminated when Triple H threw them over the top rope whilst grappling on
the apron.
The very next night, Kane and the Big Show successfully
defended their Tag Team titles against Carlito and Chris
Masters.
In the Road to Wrestlemania Tournament, Kane fought Chris
Masters. Masters won after using the ropes for leverage. Kane would later
defeat Johnny Parisi on Sunday Night Heat and gain revenge on Chris
Masters on Raw.

....Jacob Goodnight 1
Personal life
Jacobs is
married to Maurisa, with whom he has two stepdaughters.
He attended
Truman State University (then known as Northeast Missouri State
University), on a basketball scholarship, graduating with a degree in
English. In the 1988-89 season, he was an NCAA All Star and the
single-season and career field goal percentage leader for the basketball
team. Ironically, he would switch over and play on the college's football
team, rare that any collegiate athlete is a starter on their two top
athletic teams.
Grew up on a farm near Bowling Green, MO. Attended
Bowling Green High School, starring on their basketball
team.
Attended Quincy College, playing basketball there, prior to
attending Truman State.
Trivia
*Jacobs has twice helped
to bury The Undertaker in Buried Alive matches, interfering in his
"brother's" matches at both Rock Bottom 1998 and Survivor Series
2003. * There has been three females in the WWE that have betrayed
Kane: Chyna, Tori and Lita. *On three occasions, Jacobs has formed tag
teams with lightweight wrestlers (X-Pac, The Hurricane and Rob Van Dam).
On each occasion he and his partner won the World Tag Team
Championships. *Jacobs WWF World Heavyweight Championship title reign
was tied for the third shortest in history along with Bret 'The Hitman'
Hart, and only trailing Yokozuna, Andre the Giant, and Mick Foley at
twenty-four hours. *Kane was part of the fourteen issue
Undertaker comic book produced by the now defunct Chaos! Comics
in 1999, however the character only spoke once, in the Undertaker
Halloween Special, which also tied into the Mankind one shot
produced by the same company. This series introduced a comics-exclusive
character who was supposedly Kane's younger half-sister Jezebelle, who
like Kane, was supposedly the child who had resulted from a liaison
between Paul Bearer and an unnamed mother. Because she is Kane's
Half-sister in that they share the same father, it is presumable that she
had no direct relation to The Undertaker other than through Kane, so it is
questionable if indeed she can truly be called Undertaker's sister, as she
was touted as being in the previews for issue five of the series.
Jezebelle has not made any appearances in the WWE, however. Thus it is
safe to assume that she never will, since it is now almost ten years after
the series was produced. *Jacobs' current entrance theme is "Slow
Chemical" by Finger Eleven *Jacobs holds the record for the most
eliminations in the Royal Rumble match, having eliminated 11 opponents at
the 2001 Royal Rumble. However he has never won a Royal Rumble match.
The previous record was set by Ric Flair in 1992, when he entered third,
and lasted 60:02 to win the Rumble and the WWF World Heavyweight
Championship, which was up for grabs to the winner of the Rumble.
*Jacobs holds the record for holding the Tag Team Championship with
the most different partners. He has held the titles with 6 different
people: Mankind, X-Pac, Undertaker, Hurricane, Rob Van Dam and Big
Show. *Jacobs also holds the record for the fastest handicap match in
history, beating The Heart Throbs in 28 seconds *Jacobs was cast as
Jacob Goodnight in the 2006 independent film See No
Evil. *Jacobs, like many WWE wrestlers, has an biography published
called Journey into Darkness. However, unlike the other WWE
biographies, Jacobs' biography is not about him, but rather an biography
of the character of Kane, which is the first full-length biography of a
pro wrestling character (as opposed to a pro wrestler). Jacobs was
interviewed on Byte This! and he was asked if he would ever write
a real life biography of himself and said that he doesn't feel like it
right now. *Jacobs was a guest star on The Weakest Link with
other WWF superstars in March 2002. Jacobs ended up being the strongest
link. *The name "Kane" is a biblical reference to Cain, who killed his
brother Abel when the Lord accepted Abel's gifts and not his own. *Is
noted as having the best chokeslam in wrestling today.
